| Abstract/Contents: | Newly planted ground covers of Vinca minor, Pachysandra terminalis, Hedera helix and Euonymus fortunei were treated pre-emergence and post-emergence and again in the following spring. Simazine at 1.5 lb/acre the first year and at 2 lb/acre the second year did not seriously injure any of the crops, but double rates excessively injured P. terminalis and E. fortunei. Granular napropamide at 4-8 lb/acre caused no injury in the first year but 8 lb in the second year injured V. minor and P. terminalis. Oryzalin at 1.5 lb/acre reduced the bigor of V. minor during the first year but re-applied at 2 lb/acre in the second year it did not cause serious injury. A mixture of simazine at 0.75 lb + oryzalin at 1.5 lb/acre in the first year followed by 1 + 2 lb/acre in the second year caused more injury to V. minor and P. terminalis than either herbicide alone. |
