| Abstract/Contents: | One monoculture of Lolium perenne 'Aberystwyth S.23' and eight mixtures of this cultivar with single cultivars of Phleum pratense, P. bertolonii, Festuca rubra and Poa pratensis were sown in a trial to simulate football pitch renovation procedure. Cover in intial establishment was related mainly to the weight of L. perenne seed per m2: of the other species, only the two Pleum species made worthwhile contributions to cover. Artificial wear treatment started five months after sowing: there were no significant differences between the monoculture and the eight mixtures after wear, nor any worthwhile persistence of any species except L. perenne. |
