Abstract/Contents:On a free-draining mixture of sand, soil and peat, the annual application of 300 kg/ha of N, supplied as 8 dressings of a mixture of ammonium sulphate and dried blood, favored bentgrass (Agrostis castellana) at the expense of fescue (Festuca rubra) in a sward sown with these 2 species. At 150 kg/ha of N/year, varying the interval between applications did not compensate for the lower rate and the plots appeared N deficient. All plots showed a fall in pH of about 2 units in 5 years.
