| Abstract/Contents: | "A rapid detection kit for triazine-resistant weeds employing the floating leaf disc technique was distributed to 35 Cooperative Extension Agricultural Agents in Michigan in the Spring of 1990. Weed control failures at 120 sites was evaluated. Of these, 105 had triazine-resistant weeds. Triazine-resistant common lambsquarters was identified at 102 sites, pigweed species were found at 13 sites, common ragweed was found at 2 sites, and horseweed was identified at 1 site. A state map showing the distribution of triazine-resisitant weeds indicated a close relationship of the occurrence of resistance with atrazine use. The identification of triazine-resistant horseweed is the first documentation of triazine resistance of this species in this country. Leaf tissue from 16 out of 22 weed species evaluated could be tested for triazine resistance with this kit." |
