Abstract/Contents:"Information on new turfgrass germplasm is important if the proper selection of species and varieties is to be made. The use of buffalograsses, tall fescues, and zoysiagrasses in southern Arizona may offer some alternative to the use of bermudagrass, our most widely used turf species. Buffalograss, tall fescue, and zoysiagrass are currently under evaluation in replicated field trials in Tucson through the USDA - National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP). In their first year of evaluation buffalograss and zoysiagrass are providing acceptable quality turf. After five years, almost all of the sixty-five entries of tall fescue were found to give acceptable quality homelawn turf on a year-round basis."
