Abstract/Contents:"The pathogen was isolated from Cynodon dactylon in Huazhong Agriculture University. The morphological characteristics, pathogenicity, the sequence of ribosomal DNA-ITS and biological characteristics of the pathogen were studied. The results indicated that the colonies were black green and the hyphae were septate. Spore size was 24.94 µm x 10.30 µm, mostly with three-septate, two central cells were larger than both terminal cells, brown to dark brown, terminal cells subhyaline to light brown. The sequence of ribosomal DNA-ITS of the isolates was 99% match with Curvularia verruculosa which was published in GenBank. The results indicated that the isolates was C. verruculosa. The studies on biological characteristics revealed that the optimal temperature for the mycelium was 30 °C, the mycelium adapted to grow on PDA whose pH value was 5.0~9.0. Among carbon and nitrogen sources, the starch soluble and potassium nitrate were best for mycelium growth. The lethal temperature for mycelium was 70 °C maintaining 15 min as well as 75 °C maintaining 15 min for spores germination. This is the first report of C. dactylon black patch caused by C. verruculosa in China."
