Abstract/Contents:"The optimum temperature for vegetative growth of cool-season grasses is 10~24°C. Temperatures above this range will cause changes in plant metabolism, e. g. increase permeability of cell membrane, destroy some heatsensitive enzymes and bring about imbalance to some metabolic processes, resulting in inhibition of plant growth, even in death of the grasses. Heat hardiness and adequate irrigation, fertilisation, and mowing can help improve heat tolerance of cool-season turf-grasses. Further studies should be made in the areas of chemical regulation of heat tolerance and signal transduction of heat stress in plants for more information about improving turf quality during mid-summer in climatic transition zones of China."
