Abstract/Contents:"When plants are infected by any kinds of pathogen, they cause a series of physiological and biochemical changes, including the reinforcement of cell walls, the production of phytoalexins, and the synthesis of defense-related proteins. Studies of pathogenesis-related proteins (PRs) in induction and expression of encoding genes, their localization and transportation in plant tissues and cells, relationships between their biological functions and plant disease resistance, and research on transgenic plants are reviewed here. Studies on diseases in turfgrass and the prospect for application of PRs to disease-resistance breeding on turfgrasses as well as other plants are also discussed in this paper."
