| Abstract/Contents: | "The aim of the study was to analyse the effect of returned clippings on the yield of a turfgrass sward. The study was carried out on a sward established with a 50/50 seed mixture of Festuca rubra ssp. rubra and Poa pratensis. Seven fertilizer treatments (kg ha-1) were used with N varying between N0 and N400, P between P0 and P45 and K between K0 and K240. The sward was cut fifteen to twenty times during the growing season at a height of 5 cm. The clippings were either removed or returned to the plots. The effect of clippings on the sward yield was variable and fairly weak. On only one of the seven fertilization treatments, N240P34K144, did returned clippings increase the yield of the sward significantly (P > 0.05). A positive effect of returned clippings appears only in those years when moisture conditions were sufficient for plant growth." |
