| Abstract/Contents: | "During the 1955 growing season, rust of merion bluegrass, caused by Puccinia graminis Pers., was epophytotic in many areas of Pennsylvania. Common Kentucky bluegrass plots growing next to heavuly diseased Merion bluegrass plantings were completely free of rust. Using a rust-diseased, first-year stand of Merion bluegrass, five compounds, including Acti-dione, Captan 50-W, Dithane D-14 + zinc sulfate + copper sulfate and Mathieson chemical 1456, were tested for rust control. Each compound was tested at 2 rates on 2 dates of application. When applied at 15-day intervals, all compounds tested provided some measure of control. Acti-dione was most satisfactory, followed by the Dithane-zinc-copper formulation. Both of these compounds were phytotoxic." |
