| Abstract/Contents: | "The indicator significance of % N in turfgrass clippings as a measure of N adequacy for plant growth has not been satisfactorily ascertained to date. A series of fertilizer N treatments on Tifdwarf bermudagrass (Cynodon sp.) and Medalist II ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) under golf greens culture produced daily growth varying widely in the regression of growth on % N in the plant. General regressions were significant at 0.001, but dispersion of individual items in the data indicated that % N in the clippings would serve as a useful criteria of N status for plant growth only when used for relative measure at a given time of harvest. Responses to different rates of application of NH4NO3-N suggested that the ratios of both growth and % N in the clippings to the level of applied N were sufficiently consistent that growth response to a standard soluble N treatment consisting of weekly applications could be used as a base to reduce the effect of variable temperature, insolation, etc. and thus produce smoother N depletion response curves of related test materials." |
