Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicides were applied on either a 14 day spray interval (15 and 29 May, and 12 Jun) or on a 28 day spray interval (15 May and 12 Jun). Dollar spot was active and blighting ranged from 0.5 to 2.0% area affected on 15 May. Fungicides were applied with a CO2 pressurized (36 psi) sprayer in 2.5 gal water per 1000 ft2. Creeping bentgrass was maintained as a putting grenn at a 5/32" height. Soil was a loamy sand with a pH of 6.6 and 4.4% OM. Plots were 5 by 5 ft, and were arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Percent of plot area blighted by S. homeocarpa (benzimidazole resistant) or blackened by algae were determined visually on a 0 to 100% scale where 0 = no blighting or blackening, and 100 = entire are brown, black or dead. Blight ratings exceeding 0.5% and algae blackening exceeding 2% would be considered unacceptable on a putting green. Disease pressure and algal growth were moderately severe. Data collected fourteen days (i.e. 29 May) following applicaiton of fungicides showed that all treatments, except Daconil 2787 4F, ASC 66518 and ASC 66825 (0.4 oz), had provided acceptable levels of curative activity against S. homeocarpa. By 5 Jun, all treated plots possessed low dollar spot ratings. After 28 days (12 Jun), Curalan, vinclozalin and Sentinel continued to provide acceptable dollar spot control, but ProStar + Bayleton-treated plots had an unacceptable amount of dollar spot injury. All treatments were reapplied on 12 Jun, and one week later (i.e. 19 Jun) all fungicide-treated plots were nearly free of dollar spot. On 26 Jun (14 days since fungicides were last applied), Doconil 2787 4F and ASC 66900 were no longer providing acceptable dollar spot control, and Daconil 2787 90WDG, ASC 66825 (0.4 oz), and ProStar + Bayleton were providing marginally acceptable control. On the final rating date (3 Jul = 21 days since treatments were last applied), ASC 66518, ASC 66825 (0.6 oz), Curalan, vinclozalin and Sentiel had continued to provide acceptable dollar spot control. Algae ratings were obtained on 19 Jun, and Daconil 2787, ASC 66900 and ASC 66518-treated plots were free of algae. Algae levels were also low in ASC 66825 (0.4 oz), Curalin [Curalan] and vinclozalin-treated plots." |
