| Abstract/Contents: | "Spring, summer, and fall seedings of Kentucky bluegrass, Poa pratensis, creeping red fescue, Festuca rubra, and colonial bentgrass, Agrostis tenuis, were treated with 2 rates of active 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (liquid diethanolamine form) at 2, 4, 5, 8, and 10 weeks after seedling emergence. Turf density counts were made at 2 and 6 weeks after treatment by the modified inclined point quadrant method to determine the extent of seedling injury and subsequent recovery. Measurements of the effects of treatments on spring seedings showed that significant injury occurred on Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, and bentgrass that were up to 4 weeks of age. Summer seeding records established that treatments injured Kentucky bluegrass at two weeks of age and bentgrass up to 10 weeks of age. Similar records for fall seedings showed that treatments injured Kentucky bluegrass and bentgrass up to 4 weeks of age, and fescue up to 2 weeks old. The study shows that the time interval for safe treatments of seedling grass of the species tested is influenced both by the species and season when treatments are applied." |
