| Abstract/Contents: | "U-3 bermuda sprigs of uniform size, consisting of a single node each, were planted in 4-inch pots. After permitting the plants to become established in a warm greenhouse they were transferred to a series of treatments in controlled temperature growing chambers under natural and artificial light. Growth measurements were taken at the time of transfer to the growing chambers and periodically thereafter. Growth was observed at night temperatures of 33° F. (16 hours) and day temperatures of 60° and 70° F. Plants held at 33° and 40° constantly, under artificial light of low intensity remained green but made little or no growth. A portion of the leaves on the plants in the constant 33° F. treatments and the 33° F. night - 50° F. day natural light treatments, while remaining green, wilted and died after prolonged exposure. Intermediate temperature treatments varied in their growth behavior depending in part on the intensity and quality of light." |
