| Abstract/Contents: | "Increased business and professional pressures are having a profound effect on the health of many individuals. Recreational facilities provide an outlet for relief of nervous tension and are considered of value in promoting good health. Military officials are giving as serious attention to these needs as are various public and private civilian groups. In the construction of adequate golf course facilities, the preparation of realistic preliminary plans is essential. A golf course architect should choose the site and should decide what property on the real estate may be used in the construction operation. Before the cost of the project can be determined, it is necessary to have accurate information on the size of the area to develop, on soil conditions, tree removal and the use of natural resources, on the yards of soil to be moved, on the construction of roads, lakes and bridges, on power extensions and the capacity of the water system required, on the tons of lime and fertilizer and pounds of grass seed needed and finally on the equipment required for maintenance. Although detail in planning is essential, the information is presented in such a way as to emphasize simplicity in actual operation." |
