Abstract/Contents:"Turf plots were established in the fall of 1957 for the study of disease, irrigation, and fertility relations. In February 1958, there was a general infection of pink snowmold (a combination of Fusarium nivale and a cool-weather strain of Rhizoctonia solani, both virulent). The infection was general so that upon its recurrence in January of 1959 it was felt that valid counts could be made. Once a week for a 7-week period infections were counted. Unit plots, 10 by 12 feet received five treatments which consisted of nitrogen at the rate of 0, 1/2, 1, and 2 lbs. of actual N as ureaformaldehyde and 2 lbs. of urea. A total of 936 infections were counted on 120 plots. There was more disease as the nitrogen level increased, except that on Highland bentgrass the plots receiving urea had the least number of infections. Although differential irrigation treatments had been stopped in September previous, a residual effect appeared as a high level of infection on plots that had been watered daily as opposed to those receiving equivalent amounts of water applied at less frequent intervals."
