Abstract/Contents: | "The use of sewage sludge for fertilizer at USAF bases has been restricted to applications on exterior isolated areas, because there is not sufficient treatment in the sewage disposal plants to destroy harmful bacteria. A number of methods for treatment have been proposed that would be economical and still provide sufficient heat over a period of time to pass requirements set up by the medical officers. Experimental-test results on the use of bacterial activators for generating heat are presented including graphs showing variation in heat for both treated and untreated compost over a period of three weeks." |
