Abstract/Contents:"The Dow Chemical Company has developed a unique herbicide which appears to have considerable promise for the control of crabgrass and other weeds in turf. Single applications of 20 pounds per acre (dry formulation or spray) applied either pre-emergence or early post emergence have given nearly complete control of crabgrass throughout the growing season. Kentucky bluegrass and Merion bluegrass turfs are ordinarily not injured, but red fescue, Bermuda and St. Augustine grasses as well as white clover may show temporary injury shortly after treatment. In addition to controlling crabgrass, these treatments have given excellent control of both mouse-eared and common chickweed and nimblewill. Other common lawn weeds such as dandelions and plantains were not affected. The chemical structure of the compound is given, and effect of rates, spray volumes, methods of application and time of application is discussed."
