| Abstract/Contents: | "Glyphosate and siduron caused no significant reduction in percent germination of eight turfgrass varieties grown in Petri dishes. Application of low rates of glyphosate significantly increased percent germination of 'Wintergreen' red fescue and 'Park' Kentucky bluegrass. Applications of glyphosate at 1.12, 2.24 and 4.48 kg/ha immediately after planting in soil did not significantly reduce percent germination of Kentucky bluegrass grown in a controlled environment chamber. The percent germination was reduced for all three turfgrass species when glyphosate at 17.92 kg/ha was sprayed over the soil and seed immediately after planting. However, when glyphosate was applied and incorporated before planting, no significant reduction in percent germination occurred. Similar trends were observed in regard to effects of glyphosate and siduron on the shoot heights. Studies in the field indicated that glyphosate would be used for turfgrass establishment with complete safety to new turf." |
