| Abstract/Contents: | A mixture of Poa pratensis, Festuca rubra and Agrostis tenuis was sown in spring, 1969, on a loamy nutrient-rich soil and 25 fertilizer variants were applied. In each case the annual N application was 20 g/m2, and P2O5 and K2O were added in different proportions. Root dry matter in November, 1971, and July, 1972, was determined for the 0-5, 5-10 and 15-20-cm soil layers. There were no significant differences between fertilizer treatments, but the unfertilized control showed higher root dry matter values. This is attributed to changes in species composition between the unfertilized and fertilized plots. In addition, some of the fertilizer applications included herbicides which slightly decreased the root mass in the uppermost layers. |
