Abstract/Contents: | "Amicarbazone controls annual bluegrass in Kentucky bluegrass, and turf managers may wish to reseed in treated areas following applications. Field experiments were conducted in Griffin, GA to evaluate reseeding intervals of 'Midnight' Kentucky bluegrass following amicarbazone applications at three rates and four timings. Amicarbazone (70 WG) was applied to an irrigated tall fescue lawn at 98, 196, or 392 g a.i./ha at 0, 2, 4, or 6 weeks before seeding. An untreated check was included. One week before seeding Kentucky bluegrass, glyphosate was applied to the field to kill existing vegetation. On the day of seeding (October 23, 2012), the field was scalped with a rotary mower and sliced in two directions. Treatments applied on the day of seeding were applied after Kentucky bluegrass was seeded. There was no interaction for application timing and amicarbazone rate on Kentucky bluegrass establishment on five evaluation dates. All amicarbazone rates and timings had similar Kentucky bluegrass cover to the nontreated. Kentucky bluegrass ground cover increased with time, and averaged 83% (±2) cover across all treatments at 113 days after seeding. Results suggest that Kentucky bluegrass may be seeded on the day of amicarbazone applications without reductions in establishment, compared to the nontreated." |
