Abstract/Contents: | An ammonium rather than a nitrate source of N proved most suitable for Poa pratensis at the time of sowing, whereas nitrate-N was best at other stages of growth. When applied in winter with temperatures below 4 deg.C. N improved root growth, carbohydrate content and the color of the grass; it also appeared to increase resistance of P. pratensis to infection by Fusarium and Typhula spp. In the spring it resulted in a more uniform growth, greater resistance to trampling and a greater tolerance of drought. |
