Abstract/Contents:"Poa annua L., annual bluegrass, grew normally in soils treated with tri-calcium arsenate at 8.6, 17.2, 25.9, and 34.6 Ibs As ai/1,000 sq. ft. (41.2, 82.6, 123.8, and 165.1 g (ai) sq. meter) placed below the upper 1 inch (2.54 cm) of soil. Sampling of golf course soils showed that arsenic did not leach readily, and was greatly concentrated in the upper 1 inch (2.54 ern). These data are the basis for recommendation that soil samples be collected from the surface inch (2.54 ern). A silt loam, silty clay loam, and sand, silt loam and peat mixture were treated with tri-calcium arsenate at 5.8, 8.6, and 11.5 lbs As ai/1,000 sq. ft. (27.8, 41.2, and 55.2 g As ai/sq. meter). After 200 days arsenic was extracted with 0.03N NH4F; 0.025N HCl to establish a range of concentrations expected after treatment. Soil samples were then collected from 33 golf courses in the midwest. Poa annua population count was made at sampling. Soils were analyzed for ug of arsenic and phosphorus, and % sand and silt. Data were used in a second order multiple regression analysis to generate a table that would permit prediction of arsenic concentrations required to obtain control."
