| Abstract/Contents: | "Growth regulating chemicals were evaluated on several turfgrass species over a four-year period to measure effects on both top growth and root growth. Plugs of treated turf, two inches in diameter and embedded in sand beds, were used for root growth measurements. Chemicals tested were Maleic hydrazinde, chlorflurenol, Sustar, Embark, and experimental compounds. Topgrowth of red fescue (Festuca rubra), Kentucky bluegrass (Poa Pratensis), Colonial bentgrass (Agrostis tenuis) and tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) was substantially reduced with little significant injury under highway conditions. Rootgrowth was similarly suppressed by all chemicals with the exception of Embark." |
