Abstract/Contents:"In order to illustrate the reproductive growth of tall fescue, the spike differentiation and flowering characteristics of tall fescue were observed periodically throughout the development stages. The results indicate that the spike differentiation was a consecutive process which could be divided into 5 stages: the differentiation stage of bract primordium, the differentiation stage of primary branch primordium, the differentiation stage of secondary and third branches primordia, the differentiation stage of spikelet and floret primordia, and the stage of stamen and pistil primordia formation. The order of flowering had quite strong regularity as the top spikelet of the spike blossomed first, then from up to down, and the basal spikelet blossomed last; the top spikelet of each branch blossomed first, and the basal spikelet blossomed second, then from down to up, and the second spikelet of the branch flowered last; the basal floret of each spikelet blossomed in the bottom-up order."
