Abstract/Contents:"An experiment was conducted from September to November 2008 in greenhouse of the Science and Technology Park, China Agricultural University to examine the effect of three plant growth regulators (PGRs) on the growth, performance, and gibberellin content of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.). PGRs were applied 20 days after plant germination and the application regimes were paclobutrazol at 150, 200, and 250 mg路L-1; ethephon at 1000, 1200, and 1400 mg路L-1, and Aibishi at 200, 250, and 300 mg路L-1. The results show that the application of PGRs reduced plant height, especially paclobutrazol at 250 mg路L-1, ethephon at 1200 mg路L-1, and Aibishi at 300 mg路L-1. Compared to the control, leaf width was reduced by paclobutrazol and Aibishi, but ethephon widened leaf blade at the beginning of the treatment. Paclobutrazol and ethephon had no effect on chlorophyll content, while Aibishi slightly enhanced the chlorophyll content in the first 2 weeks after application, and the effect gradually disappeared after 3 weeks. PGRs reduced plant gibberellin concentration by 30.6 to 64.0%. Overall, the best performance of tall fescue turfgrass was achieved by paclobutrazol application at 250 mg路L-1."
