Abstract/Contents: | Tests were carried out in a Kentucky bluegrass [Poa pratensis]/creeping red fescue [Festuca rubra] turf. Siduron granular at 10-15 lb/acre pre-emergence was safe and gave 98-100% control of Digitaria spp. in 1967. U-22326 [2-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)propionanilide] at 12 lb/acre pre-emergence was safe in spring, 1968, in a 4-year-old turf and gave 96% control. Bensulide e.c. at 12.5 lb/acre, applied pre-emergence in December, 1967, showed 98% control in September, 1968, without injuring the turf; DCPA [chlorthal dimethyl] at 10 lb/acre showed 99% control with slight thinning of fescue. Of herbicides applied post-emergence to Digitaria spp. on 16 July, 1968, and repeated on 26 July dicamba at 0.4 lb + MSMA [monododium methylarsonate] at 2.6 lb/acre gave 96% control but fescue showed 25% thinning in September; siduron at 10 lb + DSMA [disodium methylarsonate] at 3 lb/acre gave 91% control without injury. Tests were carried out in a Kentucky bluegrass [Poa pratensis]/creeping red fescue [Festuca rubra] turf. Siduron granular at 10-15# pre-em. was safe and gave 98-100% control of Digitaria spp. in 1967. U-22326 [2-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)propionanilide] at 12# pre-em. was safe in spring 1968 in a 4-year old turf and gave 96% control. Bensulide e.c. at 12.5#, applied pre-em. in December 1967, showed 98% control in September 1968 without injuring the turf; DCPA [chlorthal dimethyl] at 10# showed 99% control with slight thinning of fescue. Of herbicides applied post-em. to Digitaria spp. on 16 July 1968 and repeated on 26 July, dicamba at 0.4 lb + MSMA [monosodium methylarsonate] 2.6% thinning in September; siduron 10 lb + DSMA [disodium methylarsonate] 3 lb/ac gave 91% control without injury. |
