| Abstract/Contents: | "The ball roll characteristics of unbiased bowls were examined for Festuca/Agrostis turf grown on different sand-soil mixes and pure sand rootzones. In dry conditions, rootzone composition had no significant effect on green speed, but in wet conditions there was some reduction in green speed, particularly on those mixes of higher soil content. Green speed on rootzone mixes with a high content of sand (greater than or equal to 94%) was largely unaffected by heavy irrigation. Multiple regression analysis suggested that green speed decreased as cutting height, moisture content and the percentage of Poa annua L. increased and was greater when the amount of Agrostis castellana Boiss. & Reut was high. However, these relationships were relatively weak." |
