Abstract/Contents:"Preemergence herbicides are used for weed control in turfgrass systems. Indaziflam is a preemergence herbicide used in warm-season turfgrasses for grassy and broadleaf species. Field research was completed to evaluate the effect of various preemergence herbicide application regimens on established hybrid bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. x Cynodon transvaalensis Burtt-Davy 'Tifway'] cover and root mass on sand soils. Evaluated regimens included indaziflam followed by (fb) indaziflam (14 g a.i. ha-1 fb 14 g a.i. ha-1), indaziflam fb indaziflam (21 g a.i. ha-1 fb 21 g a.i. ha-1), indaziflam fb oxadiazon (21 g a.i. ha-1 fb 3285 g a.i. ha-1), indaziflam fb prodiamine (21 g a.i. ha-1 fb 821 g a.i. ha-1), prodiamine fb oxadiazon (821 g a.i. ha-1 fb 3285 g a.i. ha-1) and prodiamine fb prodiamine (821 g a.i. ha-1 fb 821 g a.i. ha-1) applied fall fb late winter in each of two yr. Indaziflam treatment regimens did not adversely affect hybrid bermudagrass cover compared with the nontreated check at any evaluation time. Indaziflam fb prodiamine was the only treatment that consistently reduced hybrid bermudagrass root mass compared with the nontreated check. Results of this research indicates low rates (ā‰¤21 g ha-1) of indaziflam may be used without adversely affecting hybrid bermudagrass cover or rooting, providing practitioners with an alternative mode of action compared with conventional mitotic and protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitors; however, additional research is needed to quantify effects over multiple application seasons and years."
