Abstract/Contents:"Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) is one of the more widely used turfgrass species utilized in a lawn, partly due to its ability to be easily established from seed. Previous field studies have observed drought tolerant tall fescue cultivars can maintain acceptable quality superior to other tall fescue cultivars during times of drought stress under various irrigation regimes. It remains unknown the irrigation requirement for establishing tall fescue as well as if drought tolerant cultivars could be established using less water compared to other varieties. Therefore a study was conducted to investigate the impact of using deficit irrigation during the establishment of tall fescue cultivars. At 28 days after seeding, 'Rebel Exeda' reached 52 and 71 % green turfgrass coverage under the 50 and 100 % ET replacement levels, respectively; the same data for drought tolerant cultivar 'RK4' showed 43 and 65 % green turfgrass coverage under the 50 and 100 % ET replacement levels, respectively, in 2016. Repeat trials of this research are currently ongoing in 2017."
