Abstract/Contents:"Nineteen bentgrass cultivars consisting of both creeping and colonial bentgrass were seeded into lysimeters containing 70% medium-fine sand and 30% porous ceramic and grown to maturity for 75 days in controlled environment conditions. Once fully developed, the daily water use of each cultivar was determined under well watered condition using gravimetric methods. Additionally, the response of cultivars to acute drought was also determined using gravimetric methods and green color was quantitatively determined using digital image techniques. Significant differences were measured among bentgrass species and cultivar. This research demonstrates that where limited water resources are of concern, selecting and planting bentgrasses that use less water and stay greener even when subject to acute drought stress may be a strategy for conserving water."
