Abstract/Contents:"Dollar spot, caused by Clarireedia homoeocarpa, is one of the most economically important and destructive turfgrass diseases in North America. Host resistance to this disease would reduce the costs, frequency, and environmental impacts of applying fungicides for control. However, research of the genetics of resistance to dollar spot in perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) is limited. In this study, an I06 × A89 F1 generation mapping population was used to better understand the genetic basis of dollar spot resistance in perennial ryegrass. Dollar spot resistance of the population was studied under field conditions, and evaluations included visual assessments and digital image analyses for dollar spot injury. Putative QTL regions and associated molecular markers were identified in this study. These findings could be used to improve breeding efficiency for dollar spot resistance in perennial ryegrass."
