| Abstract/Contents: | "Zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica) has a fine texture and exceptional cold and drought tolerance. There are a lot of problems in establishing turf by Zoysia seed because of its strong dormancy. In this study, the metabolic control in Zoysiagrass seed during germination is discussed. By analysing the activitied of phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI), combined glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (G-6-PDH+6-PGDH), and malic dehydrogenase (MDH), we found that, activities of G-6-PDH+6-PGDH and MDH in dormant seed are significantly lower than these in non-dormant seed. This reflected the fact that PP pathway and TCA were not actived enough in dormant Zoysiagrass seed during germination. This is one reason for dormant seed that can't germinate when given suitable conditions." |
