Abstract/Contents:There are many different quick- and slow-release nitrogen sources that turfgrass managers have from which to choose. However, with increasing environmental concerns surrounding fertilizers and nitrate leaching causing groundwater contamination, it has become more important to know and understand the differences among nitrogen sources as they pertain to nitrogen use efficiency and movement of nitrates through the soil. A study was conducted on Kentucky bluegrass to evaluate 8 fertilizer sources to determine their effects on plant growth, nitrogent content in plant tissue, and the movement of the nitrates through the soil. The details and results (visual quality, dried clipping weights, chlorophyll content, rooting, and soil nitrate content) of this study are given.
