Abstract/Contents: | In 1971-73, Tifgreen Bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon] showed a reduced growth rate and increased incidence of dollar spot disease when treated with 3 annual applications of granular chlorthal-dimethyl either at 6.72 + 6.72 + 6.72 + 10.08 kg/ha in January + March + May + August or at 11.1 + 16.8 kg in March + August. In 1973, benfluralin at 2.2-4.4 kg/ha, bensulide 11.2-22.4 kg and A-820 (butralin) 2.2-6.6 kg applied in February were compared with chlorthal-dimethyl 6.6-20.2 kg. All treatments drastically delayed the breaking of dormancy of the Bermudagrass. Chlorthal-dimethyl 6.6-20.2 kg. All treatments drastically delayed the breaking of dormancy of the Bermudagrass. Chlorthal-dimethyl was the most inhibitory. An acceptable putting green surface on chlorthal-dimethyl-treated plots was obtained 3-4 weeks later than on the untreated or the bensulide-treated plots. Butralin and benfluralin delayed growth by 2-3 weeks. |
