Abstract/Contents:Propyzamide was applied at 1 and 2 kg/ha either in the summer (October) or in winter (June) to 18 different lawn grasses at the Horticultural Research Institute, Roodeplaat. The grasses were various cvs. of Cynodon dactylon, other Cynodon spp., Kikuyugrass (Pennisetum clandestinum), Swazi grass (Digitaria swazilandensis) and Zoisia grass (Zoysia japonica). Only one grass, the Cynodon dactylon X Cynodon sp. hybrid Outeniqua, showed visible injury following the herbicide applications. This particular grass was severely damaged and plots receiving the higher rate showed little regrowth 15 months after the treatment. It is therefore concluded that propyzamide can be safely used at the recommended rates for the control of Poa annua on all the grasses tested except Outeniqua.
