Abstract/Contents: | Discusses various aspects of turfgrass breeding, including: historical development, present status in the field throughout the country, and future outlook. Turfgrass breeders have always been on the lookout in their travels for something better. Consequently, everyone was making selections away from the course pasture types which we had to work with to finer textured, better adapted grasses for turf purposes. Much research is being done at the federal, state and private industry levels. This research involves many different turfgrass varieties. The author does not foresee the release of any new turfgrasses for the South in the immediate future. |
