Abstract/Contents:"Annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.) is one of the most widespread and troublesome weeds in turfgrass systems throughout the world. In the transition zone infestations of annual bluegrass occur when warm-season grasses go dormant in the fall. Greenhouse studies conducted at Clemson University and Auburn University evaluated the potential of 'natural' non-selective postemergence control options at two growth stages; one to two tiller and mature with seedheads. Treatments included: baking soda, WeedPharm, white vinegar + lemon juice + dawn, white vinegar + Epsom salts + dawn, Suppress herbicide, ferrous sulfate, superphosphate, Fiesta, clove oil, WeedZap, Ecological weed and grass killer, Avenger weed killer, lemongrass oil, alcohol, and red iron oxide. At 4WAT, at the one to two tiller growth stage complete control was experienced by; white vinegar + lemon juice + dawn, clove oil, Avenger weed killer and lemongrass. At 3DAT and 1WAT, mature with seedheads experienced ~90% control by clove oil. At 4WAT, all of the mature with seedheads plants had recovered."
