Abstract/Contents:"A child races from the merry-go-round to the teeter-totter in the city park; a woman does business at the county courthouse; a man checks out books at the public library; youths read street signs in an unfamiliar part of town; a whole family tacks up "Lost Dog" signs on neighborhodd utility poles. These scenes and more are repeated daily as we all use facilities that are owned and maintained by our city or town government. Often these facilities rely heavily on pesticides as a pest management technique. Yet most of us have little of [or] no information about which pesticides or how much pesticide may have been used in the public areas we visit. Pesticides often leave little or no sign of their presence and it's not always obvious how to find out what's been used in a particular area. This article focuses on Eugene, Oregon, as an example to show you can find out about pesticide applications in your town and what you cand do with that information to change the way that pesticides are used."
