Abstract/Contents: | "Bateman's, Rudyard Kipling's former house in Etchingham, East Sussex, is one of the National Trust's most popular properties, but that can bring problems. The grass path through the Wild Garden at Bateman's, towards the mill, passes along the riverbank. With almost 80,000 visitors to the house and garden, path wear had become a great problem. Additionally, being close to the river, it was continually wet and muddy, with the indigenous Wealden clay making it quite slippery...A solution was adopted which had already been a success at two other Trust properties with similar wear problems." Briefly describes the installation of Netlon Advanced Turf with a free-draining rootzone. |
