Abstract/Contents: | "The term 'all-weather' is a misleading term to describe natural and synthetic turf sportsfields. Providers and users of winter sportsfields are encouraged to evaluate and grade different options on the basis of sustainable carrying capacity and quality of play. They should examine how these criteria compare with their own perceptions of what is required. A greater potential for maximum capacity utilisation of synthetic surfaces appears possible if the surface is managed as a joint usage provision. This has the advantage of complementary markets- in the weekday schools use fills normal off-peak time for community demand; in the evenings, weekends and holidays, general community use peak time is satisfied. This type of management requires the surface to be run as a multi-sport surface rather than being dedicated to one sport such as hockey." |
