| Abstract/Contents: | "The decision to install a synthetic surface is not easy. The information available often appears contradictory. Many users of synthetic surfaces are tempted to default the responsibility in making a decision and be swayed by the commercial literature. In doing so, they are open to exploitation by the suppliers. The advice of the suppliers may not match the aims of the clients. Decision making involves the correct understanding and interpretation of key words (eg. aims, objectives and rationale). A glossary of some key words used in this paper is provided at the end." Topics include: rational decision making: value for money, built-in assumptions, variation in meanings; establishing a decision making arena: introduction, description and analysis of the surface, implications of the decision to adopt the use of a synthetic surface in a particular context, and evaluation. |
