| Abstract/Contents: | "Seed coating has become prevalent in the turfgrass industry in order to protect seeds and/or enhance germination. A novel carbohydrate coating was applied to Kentucky bluegrass seeds to evaluate effects on germination and delivery of N. The first trial evaluated seed coating density by treating KBG seed with 0, 1, 2, 4, or 6 coatings. The second trial evaluated nitrogen incorporated into the coating versus untreated seed. The coating increased seed weight -0.1, 0.22, 0.38, and 0.55% as seed coatings increased. Trials did not show any reduced or late germination due to seed coatings or the addition of nitrogen in comparison to controls. Incorporating fertilizer in the seed treatment represents a means of enhancing seedling growth and minimizing nutrients in the environment." |
