Abstract/Contents:"New hybrid bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon x. C. transvaalensis) cultivars possess improved winter color and drought resistance, yet little is known about their wear tolerance and recovery from divoting. A one-yr-old stand of hybrid bermudagrass cultivars TifTuf, UCR 17-8, UCR TP 6-3, and Santa Ana maintained at 1.3 cm mowing height and 50% of reference evapotranspiration were subjected to simulated golf cart traffic stress starting in May 2023. Forty linear passes were made weekly while rapidly turning the wheel back and forth to create added wear. Starting in July 2023 and every 2 months thereafter, simulated golf club divots were created using a cup cutter and holes were filled with sand. Turfgrass performance and recovery were assessed biweekly using: visual ratings, digital image analysis from a drone, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR)."
