Abstract/Contents:"MLSN (Minimal Levels of Sustainable Nutrition) is a soil test interpretation method developed to provide nutrient recommendations specifically for turfgrass systems. Historically, the turfgrass management industry adopted nutrient recommendations derived from soil calibration studies performed on traditional agricultural crops where yield was the most important factor. While these recommendations have proven to be adequate, they have also shown to be wasteful. With the conservation of natural resources and environmental sustainability being at the forefront of industry concerns, the reduction of inputs and increasing the precision of fertilizer recommendations will likely be a pillar of the campaign. Turfgrass systems are unique in that yield is basically irrelevant and turfgrass quality (TQ) is the proxy used to rate a stand of turf. Sampling the soil of good performing turf stands in DE will provide insight into the validity and usefulness of MLSN locally."
