Abstract/Contents:"This study was conducted to evaluate effects of application of super absorbent polymers (SAP) as the drainage layer in the sand soil on the capillary rise inhibition of ground water and salt. The 1st experimental treatments were designed as follows; no barrier layer (NBL), control (gravel), SAP-100, SAP-150, and SAP-200, and the 2nd experiment; NBL, SAP-3 (SAP-150 layer 3 cm), SAP-5 (SAP-150 layer 5 cm), and SAP-10 (SAP-150 layer 10 cm). As compared to NBL in 1st experiment, pH of SAP treatments was not significantly different, EC, soil moisture, and NaCl content were decreased by inhibiting a capillary rise. Compared to NBL in 2nd experiment, the change of EC, NaCl content, and moisture content of SAP-5 and SAP-10 were not significantly different by rising a salt. These results indicated that the application of SAP was blocked the NaCl transport by inhibition a capillary rise of salt, and thickness of SAP layer as a capillary barrier material was approximately 5-10 cm."
