Abstract/Contents:"Sixty experimental and commercially available fine-leaf fescue cultivars were seeded at 4#/M on August 25, 1993 to be evaluated over a 5 year period. Species that are considered fine-leaf fescues include strong creeping red fescue, slender creeping red fescue, chewings fescue, hard fescue and sheeps fescue. The fine-leaf fescues represent a relatively under utilized cool-season turfgrass species. It is limited in full sun situations by demonstrating a characteristic "brown haze". It thrives in more maritime climates, yet it is exceptionally winter hardy in the north central US. A uniform leafspot infestation occcurred in August, however, there was no significant difference between cultivars. Several experimental materials were in the top 10% with Darwin, Seabreeze and Shademaster II representing commercially availabe material."
