| Abstract/Contents: | "For the second year, many of the treatments provided reductions in growth from 25 to 75% depending on PGR rate. However, reduction of growth greater than 40% typically resulted in significant reductions in quality below an acceptable level, except for Scott's TGR (including fertilizer). Additionally, quality was substantially reduced through the middle of the summer on all PGR treatments as a result of severe dollar spot infestations. This would suggest the need for regular preventative fungicide applications with the PGR's. The variety of plant growth regulator technology offers a substantial opportunity to minimize mowing requirements during the growing season. Several other management considerations must be considered before beginning a PGR program. First, the influence on disease incidence and recovery that may require addtional fundicide applications. Second, the rebound effect might be substantial, and therefore negate the time and energy savings afforded early in the year at a time when labor forces declines in the fall. The next step with this project is to focus on growth regulation only when labor forces are low in spring and fall to determine year-long savings." |
