Abstract/Contents: | Author Jean Faichney, when forced to make decisions regarding the playability of a soccer field, devised her own standard test. "The system I have devised involves taking a steel ruler, one meter in length and weighing 14 oz, and dropping it from a height of one foot into the playing surface. The depth to which the ruler penetrates should be measured on the touchlines, the goal areas, and in the center circle. A pitch should be deemed playable if the steel ruler drops to no less than half an inch and no more than two inches." |
