Abstract/Contents: | "More institutions and businesses find that composting meets their residual management need, and provides an excellent soil amendment. Some are discovering a new profit center as well. The motivation is obvious - why pay to have these materials thrown away when the space and equipment are availabe to compost them. Use of the end product further reduces grounds maintenance costs. This compost connection is apparent in other green industry sectors as well. [L]andscapers and nurseries are setting up composting operations to process their own residuals as well as those generated by others. The finished compost is used in their operations and sold to wholesale and retail customers." Discusses the strategies in managing a profitable composting program, including ground maintenance, growing niche for small nursery and partnership of composting company with green industry. |
